169 West

The arched doorway of 169 West up three stone steps, with a blue table and slatted chairs and colourful tables and parasols on the street terrace

169 West is a hybrid of specialty coffee shop, natural wine bar and wine shop in the heart of Wiedikon, around the corner from Brupbacherplatz and Lochergut, and the coffee side more than holds its own. Espresso comes from Vertical Coffee Roasters while the filter roaster rotates, with names like Tim Wendelboe and Bonanza making appearances, brewed on a Kalita Wave for consistent pour overs.

It feels like a cosy living room where a morning coffee can drift into an afternoon glass of something natural, with small homemade dishes on hand throughout. A separate area is set aside for laptops during the day, and once evening arrives the room turns to the wine list, which was named Switzerland's Sustainable Wine List of the Year in 2025.
