Warka Coffee

Warka Coffee opened its Washington coffee house in the summer of 2025 at the corner of New Jersey Avenue and E Street, close to Capitol Hill and Union Station. The company takes its name from the sycamore fig under which Ethiopian villages gather, and it builds its whole program on Ethiopian coffee that it imports itself and roasts in small batches in Rockville, Maryland, with a roast profile worked out for each lot.
The bar pours espresso and milk drinks, pour over by the cup, batch brew and a short list of signature Ethiopian drinks, with a breakfast and lunch menu beside them. Washed Yirgacheffe, natural Guji and other regional coffees are sold as retail bags, and brewing gear sits on the shelves. The room is set up for sitting down, and wifi is available. It opens early on weekdays and closes at one on Sunday.
