Balthasar Kaffee Bar

A former Tyrolean chef's turn into specialty coffee, Balthasar runs on a single La Marzocco machine behind a mosaic tiled counter, with Italian music setting the pace rather than the usual third wave hush. The beans come from Wildkaffee, a German guest roaster based in Garmisch-Partenkirchen that blends a house lot specifically for this address rather than supplying an off the shelf mix.
Praterstraße runs straight from the Danube Canal toward the Prater fairground itself, a working thoroughfare rather than a boutique strip, and Balthasar's counter fits that register: unfussy, dog friendly, open six days a week with a shorter Saturday and no Sunday service. Bagged beans are sold both here and through Wildkaffee's own online shop.
