Ammazza Caffè

Jacopo and Michelangelo, both trained as engineers, worked in Milan and Denmark before deciding, in their own words, to bring specialty coffee to Verona, where there was so much to do. They opened Ammazza in October 2022 down a side alley in the historic center, taking its name from the Italian tradition of an ammazzacaffè, a shot of liquor to finish off the coffee. Rather than settle on a single house roaster, the counter runs a chalkboard of three espresso and three filter options at a time, rotating international names like Tim Wendelboe, Pelican and Nomad Coffee through the weeks so staff can walk customers through each cup rather than just pointing at a blend.

Toasts run on nine grain sourdough from a local bakery, Amao Sapori Oltre il Pane, alongside vegan cakes, fresh juices and a short list of craft tonics and cocktails for the part of the day when coffee gives way to something stronger. The room opens onto a small side terrace with a few outdoor tables, a quiet spot to sit with a cup two minutes off the more crowded streets around the Arena.
