Majer Santa Margherita
A few steps off Campo Santa Margherita, in the middle of Dorsoduro's student and local life near Ponte dei Pugni, this Majer shop pairs the family bakery's bread and pastry counter with the same coffee roasted daily at their small torrefazione in the Cannaregio Ghetto. It sits on a pedestrian stretch between the campo and Campo San Barnaba that fills with Ca' Foscari students well before it sees many tourists.
The counter runs long, from cannoli and arancini to pistachio croissants and daily specials, but the coffee holds its own too, poured from whole bean and ground stock brought over from the roastery rather than a generic house blend. It works equally well as a fast standing espresso or a slower breakfast with fresh juice and pastry at one of the outdoor tables.
