Jacobsen og Svart Kaffebrenneri

The outdoor bench seating beneath the branded Jacobsen og Svart window decal

Tony Jacobsen started this roastery in 2012 in a six square meter space behind a hair salon, rigging a hacked air conditioning unit to vent a two kilogram roaster and becoming one of the first shops to bring light roasted coffee to Trondheim. In 2013 the operation moved in with local chocolate maker Cielo to experiment with coffee and chocolate pairings, then in 2015 launched as a full micro roastery under the name Svart, Norwegian for black and shop slang for coffee. The combined name has stuck since.

The current room sits inside Arkitektenes Hus in Midtbyen, roasting on site with an emphasis on direct trade and hand picked lots paid at a fair rate to producers. Beans are sold by the bag alongside the daily espresso and filter service, and vegan pastries come from the in house bakery, YVO.
