Riso Mat og Kaffebar

Brothers Arne Risø Nilsen and Mathias Risø Nilsen opened Riso in 2013 inside one of Tromso's oldest buildings, a timber structure dating to 1806 on the waterfront. Arne runs this original Strandgata location and has twice been Norway's Latte Art Champion, a title the Falstaff Coffee Guide Nordics 2026 recognized further by naming him Norway's Barista of the Year.

The bar leans on hand brewed single origin coffee, pulled through V60 pour over and Aeropress rather than a fixed house blend, with beans rotated frequently across farms in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Oat milk cappuccino is on the regular menu, and the historic room itself, with its low ceilings and old timber frame, is as much a draw as the coffee.
