Urban Caffè

A latte with a single coffee bean garnish beside a pile of roasted coffee beans on a cork coaster

Urban opened in May 2024 in a former restaurant space, a partnership between RoaTS, a Trieste micro roastery, and Walter Gustin, whose 040 Group already ran seven other venues across the city. The pitch is deliberately blunt, Urban Caffè bills itself as the first specialty coffee shop in Trieste, a straightforward bet on how a city famous for old school Viennese style bars would take to it.

RoaTS roasts two house blends, Neoclassico and Eclettico, plus a rotating single origin, weighed and ground to order at the counter alongside V60, Chemex, AeroPress, and cold brew, the last of which anchors a short list of coffee based cocktails. Beans and home brewing gear are sold to take home. A second location, Urban Excelsior, occupies the historic Gran Bar Excelsior on Viale XX Settembre, attached to a 1925 cinema that turned into a gym decades ago, the same specialty coffee concept dropped into a room with a century of history already built in.
