Antico Caffè Torinese

Opened in 1919, Torinese owes its interior to Giuliano Debelli, a Triestine cabinetmaker who also decorated the transatlantic liners Saturnia and Vulcania, and it shows: an Art Nouveau counter, wood paneling, brass fixtures, and a crystal chandelier that have barely changed since. In 1999 it entered Italy's official register of historic bars, Storici Locali d'Italia, earning a gold plaque certifying the age of its furnishings.

A change of management in 2014 pushed the drinks list toward serious cocktails without touching the daytime rhythm of pastries and a quick coffee at the counter, a tiny room built for both. A short walk from Piazza della Borsa and Piazza Unità d'Italia, it stays open past midnight most nights, one of the few places in the old town where the day's last drink and the day's first espresso come from the same counter.
