Propeller Coffee Co.

The dark brick storefront of Propeller Coffee Co. at 50 Wade Avenue with its red propeller sign above the door

Propeller Coffee Co. began in 2013 when Losel Tethong and Geoff Polci took a rough old factory on Wade Avenue and turned it into a roastery, cafe, coffee lab and event space under one roof, with the first beans roasted in the new building that October. Today the brick building with its red propeller sign is one of the best known roasting addresses in the west end, and a certified B Corp that cares as much about farmers and the planet as it does about the cup.

Everything starts with careful buying. Each green coffee is inspected, sample roasted and cupped to SCAA protocols before it is bought, then roasted on a Loring SmartRoaster with every batch logged in Cropster and cupped again. The cafe pours espresso and filter coffee next to a rotating seasonal menu and pastries, and freshly roasted beans, brewing gear and cold brew cans are on the shelves for the walk home.
