Raw Sugar Roast

A cream coloured La Marzocco espresso machine with cups stacked on top, standing in a dim room at Raw Sugar Roast

Raw Sugar Roast began in 2020 as a wholesale roastery run by Masashi Oda and Yuya Kosakada, and in 2022 it opened its flagship roastery cafe in Setagaya. Oda has roasted in Australia, the UK and at Glitch Coffee and Roasters in Tokyo, while Kosakada previously trained baristas at Paul Bassett.

The room is industrial in style, with vintage European furniture and plenty of seating. The approach is seed to cup, with sourcing, roasting and brewing given the same care, and the shop aims to make specialty coffee part of everyday life rather than a niche.
