Fuglen Tokyo

Fuglen opened its first shop outside Norway on this quiet corner near Yoyogi Park in May 2012, taking over a spot once occupied by a neighborhood cafe called Koz. The room is filled with Norwegian furniture and lighting from the 1940s through the 1970s, much of it sourced and sold by Fuglen's own vintage design arm, and the light roasted filter coffee and espresso keep the same profile as the original Oslo location this all grew out of.

By day it runs as a coffee bar with a rotating single origin list, cortados, and Fuglen's own hot chocolate. Past sundown the counter shifts into a cocktail bar built around Scandinavian aquavit and small batch bitters, a dual identity carried over intact from Oslo, though the coffee program that built the shop's reputation in Tokyo remains the reason regulars show up before the evening crowd.
