Bartine Bakery & Market

A hand-painted B decal on the front window, market shelves of books, jars and bottles visible through the glass behind it

Bartine Bakery & Market opened on Piet Heinstraat in the Zeeheldenkwartier in 2021 after a crowdfunding campaign raised more than one hundred thousand euros from around one hundred forty backers, started by Casper Talsma and Nils Klinkspoor together with baker Oliver van der Ree. One side of the space runs as a bakery turning out sourdough loaves and almond croissants, while the other holds a small market shop and a Modbar espresso counter tucked at the back.

Beyond coffee and bread, the market shelves stock natural wine, cookery and food books, and equipment for brewing coffee at home, making it as much a neighborhood provisions stop as a place to sit with a cup. It keeps identical hours every day of the week, opening at eight in the morning.
