Karlova Kohv

Karlova Kohv opened in 2016 in the wooden house district it takes its name from, a patchwork of early twentieth century timber homes a short walk south of the university. It was the first Estonian roastery to work only with certified organic coffee, and the small shop behind the purple door on Tähe still does its own roasting on site, run by a team that has twice taken the national AeroPress championship.

The menu stays close to that roasting, with a genuine light roast alongside espresso drinks and a kalita pour over, and beans are sold by the bag for anyone who wants to keep brewing at home. A porridge bar runs through the morning and into lunch, with pancakes added on Sundays, and the shop keeps to daytime hours all week while staying closed on Mondays. Dogs are welcome throughout, and there is a second, smaller Karlova Kohv outpost right on Raekoja plats in the old town for anyone who does not make it out to Karlova itself.
