Vohvelikahvila

Vohvelikahvila runs out of Tampere's smallest stone house, a hundred year old building beside Tammerpuisto park that's previously held a shoemaker, an antiquarian bookshop, a bookbinder, and by local legend the city's first gas station. Waffles have been made here to a secret recipe since 1992, giving the tiny cafe its name and its reason for being.

Sweet and savory waffles anchor the menu, coffee served alongside rather than the other way around, poured in a room small enough that a seat by the window looking out toward the Tammerkoski rapids counts as a good find. The idyllic setting and the decades old recipe have made it as much a stop for the building's own history as for what comes out of the waffle iron.
