Pyynikin Munkkikahvila

A family has run this cafe at the base of the Pyynikki Observation Tower for close to forty years, best known for a secret recipe ginger sugar doughnut baked fresh through the day rather than any single coffee program. The tower itself dates to 1929, a 26 meter red granite structure built in the classicist style after an earlier wooden version was damaged during the country's 1918 conflict.
Coffee comes locally roasted from Tampereen Paahtimo, poured alongside the doughnuts to a mix of tower visitors and regulars who treat the cafe as a destination on its own rather than an afterthought to the climb. A second location inside Tampere's market hall carries the same doughnuts to shoppers downtown.
