Rufous Coffee

Yang Bo Chih opened this room in 2007 to argue that coffee deserved to be the main event rather than an afterthought next to dessert, a stance that was unusual in Taipei at the time. Two years in, an American coffee rating outlet gave the roast a 91 point score, the first time any Taiwanese shop had cracked that mark, and the name has carried weight in the city's specialty scene ever since near Technology Building station.
Yang roasts and pulls shots himself, treating each origin's roast curve the way a cook treats a different ingredient rather than running one house profile across the board. The room keeps its original worn wood counter and glass fronted shelves of green coffee sacks, selling beans roasted on site by the bag alongside the drinks menu. A second shop opened near Zhongshan Junior High School station in 2025 and made Taiwan's only appearance on the World's 100 Best Coffee Shops list that year.
