Fika Fika Cafe

James Chen competed at the 2013 Nordic Roaster Competition in Scandinavia and won both the espresso and overall titles, the first time anyone from outside the Nordic countries took that win in the contest's history. He opened Fika Fika Cafe that same year on Yitong Street in Zhongshan, a bright, clean room styled after the coffee bars of Stockholm and Copenhagen, down to the white walls and uniformed staff.
Capulyuly is the house blend and best seller, its name a nod to the Italian island of Capri paired with a wink at cappuccino, built from several beans roasted to different degrees so the cup turns buttery and round under milk yet stays full bodied black. The shop pours Aeropress brewed single origins alongside its espresso menu, sells bags of its own roast to go, and keeps wifi and power outlets running for anyone settling in with a laptop. The small outdoor seating area welcomes dogs.
