Taraba opened its first Stuttgart location on Neckarstraße in 2017, named after an old Bosnian word for the wooden fences seen outside houses back home, a nod from founder Meris Prosic to where he grew up. Floor to ceiling windows spell out 'it's art' in block letters, a companion to the coffee themed murals inside and a reminder that the beans roasted here begin as fruit before they become the espresso on ice or flat white in your cup.

The kitchen turns out cheese bagels, avocado toast and carrot cake alongside the coffee, and the mostly English speaking team pours direct trade single origins that also ship out as wholesale and monthly subscriptions across Europe. Unusually for Stuttgart, Taraba stays open every day of the week, including Sunday, when much of the city closes down.
