Cafe Volta Hagastaden

The pastry case and entrance at Cafe Volta Hagastaden, glasses and stacked cups on the shelf above trays of sandwiches and baked goods

Cafe Volta took its name from the Greek word for taking a stroll, and the Hagastaden branch fills a ground floor arch on Hagaesplanaden with floor to ceiling windows and a lit up sign visible from across the plaza near Karolinska. It is one of three addresses run by the same family, alongside locations in Sundbyberg and on Regeringsgatan, each with its own menu but the same daily rhythm of fresh bread and organic, specialty roasted coffee from Johan and Nystrom.

The kitchen turns out fresh salads, warm pasta, and hearty soups through the day, with French toast and a well liked club sandwich among the regulars' orders. Outdoor tables line the glass facade for anyone who wants an espresso on the go or a slower seat to read a magazine and chat with a neighbor.
