Café del Volcán

Café del Volcán opened on Yongkang Lu in 2012, one of the first shops in Shanghai built entirely around specialty coffee rather than food. The menu skips tea altogether; San Pellegrino is the only alternative to the cup itself, and the house beans travel straight from Faldas del Volcán, a family run estate in Guatemala with more than a century of history growing coffee on volcanic soil.

The room holds about twenty people across a few boxy tables, walls painted a soft latte color and hung with coffee bean décor that leans into the theme without overdoing it. Beyond the counter, the team roasts and wholesales to restaurants and hotels across the city, and stocks bags to take home for anyone who wants Guatemalan volcanic coffee brewing in their own kitchen.
