Boon Boona Coffee Capitol Hill

The corner storefront of Boon Boona Coffee at 12th and Cherry with its round sign, brick pillar and sidewalk bench

Boon Boona's Capitol Hill cafe sits at 12th and Cherry across from Seattle University, a warm corner room with large windows, a patio looking toward 12th Avenue Square Park and a big community table with a sliding door for a little privacy. A mural by Perri Rhoden anchors the wall, and the space is easy to settle into for quiet time or a long catch up.

The company sources coffee exclusively from Africa, building long relationships with growers and cooperatives in Ethiopia, Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya and beyond, and its cafes borrow the slower pace of the coffee houses of East Africa. Its Jebena Blend is a medium dark mix of Ethiopian and Cameroonian beans with a chocolaty body, and coffee ceremonies are held at the Renton roastery. Weekday hours run seven to four, weekends eight to five.
