Ritual Coffee Roasters

Eileen Hassi Rinaldi founded Ritual in 2005, becoming one of the earliest American roasters to buy directly from farmers rather than through a broker, a sourcing model that helped set the terms for the third wave movement more broadly. This Hayes Valley cafe sits inside a shipping container at PROXY, an unusual piece of only in San Francisco architecture that has become one of the more photographed coffee spots in the neighborhood.

The roasting program leans toward clean, sweet single origins and seasonal microlots rather than heavier blends, and Ritual now runs a further cafe on Valencia Street in the Mission along with a counter at SFO, this Octavia Street container remaining one of the more architecturally distinctive rooms in the city.
