Hedge Coffee

The Hedge HQ courtyard with a tall redwood tree in front of the glass fronted cafe and redwood clad building

Hedge Coffee spent nearly a decade as a mobile event coffee operation before settling into HEDGE HQ on Shotwell Street. Guests walk through a courtyard shaded by a tall redwood tree into a long room with lofty ceilings and redwood throughout, with the coffee bar at one end and the roastery alongside. The team roasts on site on a Loring Kestrel, and the roastery doubles as a showroom for the equipment company Sovda.

Music matters as much as the coffee here. The room was designed around a carefully tuned sound system, and guest DJs play vinyl during the day. The bar pulls espresso through Modbar groupheads and brews filter coffee on Hario Switch brewers, with tea and pastries from local bakeries alongside. The cafe opens at seven on weekdays and at eight on weekends.
