Mnemonic Coffee

Mnemonic Coffee opened on Fifth Avenue in 2023 as a small, bar style space for coffee and zero proof drinks. It is run by Gia Giambalvo and Sarah Girdzius, two San Diego coffee professionals who worked together at James Coffee Co., and Sarah's background in sourcing green coffee shapes a menu built on long standing relationships with farmers and local roasters.

The owners designed the room themselves with a 1970s look of warm wood paneling and orange and brown tones. The menu covers espresso, macchiato, cortado, cappuccino, batch brew, cold brew and a pour over priced to the market, with milk drinks made with oat milk and house made specials such as a maple and cinnamon latte. Guests are encouraged to bring their own cup, and Balboa Park is a short walk away.
