The Coronado cafe of Heave Ho Coffee Co. is a speakeasy style room tucked behind a shop on C Avenue, entered from the alley before the shop opens. It carries the coffees of an independent roaster that describes its approach as simple, to source thoughtfully, roast with purpose and make coffee that feels welcoming whether brewed at home, ordered at the counter or shared with a crew.

The roasting is done in small batches in the San Diego region at the company's roastery in Chula Vista, and the bag lineup includes Flag Ship, a medium roast with cocoa, caramel and cherry notes, Black Flag, a dark roast, and Light House, a light roast with citrus, honey and graham cracker. The cafe opens at eight and closes at noon early in the week, staying open until two from Thursday to Sunday.
