Coffee Cycle Roasting

The Grand Avenue cafe in Pacific Beach was the original cafe of Coffee Cycle Roasting, a San Diego company that grew out of a bicycle powered coffee cart and still lives by the motto Drink Coffee, Ride Bikes. Owner Chris O'Brien moved from the cart into roasting in the fall of 2021.

The company says it handcrafts coffee to a high standard and buys it either directly from farmers or through an importer with a sterling reputation for ethical practices, with fresh roasts shipped within a few days. Subscriptions, merchandise and teas from China, Taiwan and Japan are on offer, and its events calendar covers cuppings and bike rides. The Pacific Beach cafe opens at six on weekdays and at seven on weekends.
