Vanilla Specialty Coffee

The drip filter bar at Vanilla Specialty Coffee, with an espresso machine, rows of grinders and glass canisters, and hanging pendant lights under a wood ceiling panel

Vanilla Specialty Coffee has operated in the Badaguan area for more than ten years, one of the longest running independent coffee shops on this stretch of Qingdao coastline. The space pairs a retro industrial interior, exposed pipework and warm lighting, with a wide window front looking straight onto the beach and the sea beyond.

A glass cabinet of green coffee beans greets customers at the door, including lots that have placed in international competitions, and the shop roasts its own beans from origins spanning Ethiopia to Central America. The signature vanilla latte layers espresso with natural vanilla syrup and cloud like milk foam, and a sea salt caramel latte balances sweetness with a savory edge, alongside a rotating filter list that has run to Guji Hambella and Geisha lots.
