Combi Coffee Roasters

The curved dark wood bar at Combi in Bonfim, a La Marzocco machine, grinders and shelves of beans and brewing gear behind it

Combi began in 2014 as an old Mercedes van carrying specialty coffee to festivals, markets and street corners around Porto, and since 2017 it has had a fixed home in a former garage on Rua do Morgado de Mateus in Bonfim. Architects Alexandre Gamelas and Catarina Santos turned the space into a bright, comfortable room with a curved dark wood bar, black framed glass partitions and burlap coffee sacks stacked beside the tables, and brothers Gonçalo and Francisco Cardoso still run it.

Combi sources green coffee from different origins and roasts it themselves, with a larger roastery now at its second address near Serralves Park. At the bar the beans become espresso, filter coffee and cold brew, and bags of beans plus brewing gear are on the shelves for taking the ritual home.
