Upper Left Roasters

The bright interior of Upper Left Roasters with pale wood counters, tall windows and customers working at a long table

Upper Left Roasters has anchored a corner of Ladd's Addition since the summer of 2015, when Katherine Harris opened it as a neighborhood gathering place rather than just another cafe. Coffee is roasted in a small roaster in the corner of the room, and the lineup runs from the Ladd's house blend and a cafe espresso to seasonal single origins and limited micro lots from farms around the world.

The building was once a windowless dive bar and is now a light, airy room with pale wood, big panes of glass and patio and parklet seating that make the most of the historic neighborhood's leafy streets. Pour over and drip coffee sit alongside espresso drinks, and bags of freshly roasted beans are sold at the counter. The cafe opens early on weekdays and a little later on weekends.
