Old Friends Coffee

The Old Friends Coffee corner building with the name spelled in purple tiles on a grey tiled wall, a dark awning marked Coffee, folding wall tables and painted stools on the pavement

Old Friends is a small, sleek roaster and cafe on Southeast Belmont Street in Buckman that slow roasts its own single origin coffees. The shelf has recently carried Costa Rica El Indio, Papua New Guinea Kunjin, Ethiopia Sidama Natural and a Mexican decaf, all sold in twelve ounce bags to take home, so the counter doubles as a shop for anyone brewing at home.

Inside, the room is cozy, with decor that recalls a 1950s school, and the short menu pairs espresso drinks and brewed coffee with a small selection of pastries and teas. The baristas take care over espresso extraction, and a cappuccino is a good order. The cafe opens at seven on weekdays and at eight on weekends and closes at three every afternoon, so it is a morning and early afternoon stop.
