Heart Coffee Roasters

Wille and Rebekah Yli-Luoma founded Heart in 2009 with this original room on East Burnside Street in Buckman, a Scandinavian influenced space built around a functioning black Probat roaster. The roasting style sits deliberately between extremes, not too light and not too dark, brewed through Chemex and Aeropress alongside espresso.

Thrillist named Heart among the top coffee roasters in the country in both 2013 and 2016, and the shop has kept its founding character since, skipping wifi on purpose to favor conversation and quick visits over laptop camping. A second Heart cafe operates further out in Woodstock; an earlier downtown West End location has since closed.
