Case Study Coffee Roasters

Case Study is owned by married couple Wes Russell and Christine Herman, who opened their first shop on Sandy Boulevard in Northeast Portland's Rose City Park neighborhood before adding a downtown cafe in 2012 and an Alberta Street location in 2014. The Northwest 23rd Avenue shop occupies a converted historic house, roasting its coffee in small batches and brewing it through Chemex and Aeropress alongside standard espresso.
Willamette Week readers voted Case Study best coffee shop in Portland in both 2016 and 2017, and the Oregonian named it among downtown's ten best coffee shops around the same time. The Nob Hill location keeps that reputation going with a back porch and ground level patio tables that pull in dogs and laptop regulars, plus a short food menu of bagels, granola, and pastries alongside drinks built on housemade syrups.
