Futuro

The plain white street front of the Palabra building that houses Futuro, with the angular black Palabra lettering on the wall, a glazed opening at the left and a concrete kerb in the sun

Futuro is a small coffee bar tucked inside Palabra, a creative space and hair studio on North First Street, just off Roosevelt Row. It grew out of that setting as an extension of the gallery rather than a standalone cafe, dreamed up by Palabra's owner Jorge Ignacio Torres together with coffee director Bill Kennedy.

The counter pours espresso and filter coffee from roasters outside Arizona, with pastries alongside, in a spare, angular room that shares its walls with exhibitions and events. Futuro keeps daytime hours, opening at eight and closing at four, which makes it a good first stop before a walk past the murals and galleries of the arts district.
