Cafetal Coffee & Familia

The Cafetal dining room with a half orange wall painted with yellow coffee plant drawings and the Cafetal script, rattan and white chairs at light timber tables, a green velvet armchair and a framed print of a green shuttered window

Cafetal Coffee & Familia is a family run coffee shop on College Avenue near the Arizona State University campus, built around a coffee farm that has belonged to co founder Sebastian Ramirez's family in Colombia for more than sixty years. The same mountain farm supplies the coffee, and the room is decorated with Colombian touches that make it feel closer to a living room than a campus cafe.

The menu leans Latin inspired, with an arroz con leche latte, a cafe latte and chai, plus Colombian empanadas and a build your own breakfast sandwich. The cafe opens at seven on weekdays and at half past eight on weekends, closing at four on weekdays and at three on Saturdays and Sundays, so it fits both the early class crowd and a slow weekend morning.
