Café Lomi

A working roastery first and a café second, set behind exposed stone walls and reclaimed wood in the 18th arrondissement's Goutte d'Or, a dense, largely North and West African immigrant neighborhood that sees a fraction of the tourist traffic of central Paris despite being a short walk from Montmartre. Lomi roasts a wide range of bagged coffee on site and runs regular cupping sessions and workshops for anyone who wants to go past just drinking the stuff. The education side of the business is as central to its identity as the counter service.

The room has high ceilings and an educational, workshop like feel rather than a polished café one, with roasting equipment visibly part of the space rather than tucked away. It's a longer trip out from the center than most of Paris's other specialty spots, worth it specifically because of that roastery: this is a destination for people who care about where their coffee comes from, not a casual stop on the way to somewhere else.
