L'Arbre à Café Rue des Martyrs
One of the newer L'Arbre à Café shops sits in the middle of the 9th on Rue des Martyrs, the sloping food street that climbs from Notre Dame de Lorette towards Montmartre, behind a dark frontage lettered in white. The brand grows coffee on its own farms in Peru and Ethiopia and roasts it, and this shop is aimed at people hunting for something new to taste, with advice at the counter and the choice of drinking in or taking away.
Beans from the organic and biodynamic range are sold by the bag, so it is easy to leave with a roast from the producers the brand works with directly. On a street full of bakers, cheesemongers and wine shops it is the place to buy the coffee for the weekend. It closes on Mondays and pauses briefly around lunchtime on other days, staying open until early evening.
