Fringe

The black Fringe awning with its coffee food photography tagline, gallery prints and a paper cloud light fixture visible through the open storefront

Jeff Hargrove is a photographer, and Fringe, which he opened in the summer of 2016 on Rue de Turenne, is built around that: a coffee bar that doubles as a small photography gallery and bookshop, with exhibitions on the walls and the intent of being a hub for independent artists as much as a place to drink well. The coffee comes from local roasters and is made with real precision, alongside matcha, chai, cookies and cinnamon and cardamom buns.

It closes early, four on weekdays, five at the weekend, so it is a morning and lunch stop, one of the rare Paris rooms where coffee and photography genuinely converge.
