Happy Goat Coffee Company

Happy Goat traces back to 2010, when it started roasting out of a small Ottawa garage on a philosophy of small batch, quality first coffee. The company grew from there into one of the city's most recognizable local roasters, now supplying beans to dozens of independent cafes and restaurants around Ottawa while running its own string of shops under CEO Henry Assad and master roaster Hans Langenbahn. The original cafe on Laurel Street sits in Hintonburg in a converted industrial building, with mismatched furniture and a loose, easygoing feel that has stuck around even as the brand has expanded across the city.

Coffee is roasted on site at Laurel in small batches a few times a week, and the shop pours the full range of Happy Goat's rotating direct trade offerings alongside espresso drinks and simple grab and go food. The patio out front is a regular gathering spot for the neighborhood, with a water bowl by the door for visiting dogs, even though house rules keep pets to the outdoor seating only.
