Coffee Roughnecks sits in Minamihorie under an owner who spent thirteen years living in New Zealand and came back wanting to bring that country's coffee habits with him. The menu board is painted straight onto the wall using New Zealand terms like short black and long black rather than the usual Italian names, a small detail that tells a returning customer exactly what kind of shop this is before they order.

The owner roasts the coffee himself and pours it mostly as flat whites, the drink that anchors the whole menu, alongside hot dogs and meat pies that lean more Antipodean bakery than Japanese cafe. It is a small, single counter operation, open early on weekdays and closed on Tuesdays, run by someone who is clearly still making the coffee he wanted to find when he moved back.
