Under Pressure Coffee

Mike Papadopoulos opened Under Pressure in the summer of 2019 as an independent coffee shop and roastery, building a genuine neighborhood hub in Astoria around a Queens crowd that had few specialty options nearby at the time. The shop won Best Cafe and placed first in Best Coffee and Tea in a local Astoria award roundup at the end of 2025, recognition for a room that treats its espresso program as seriously as the community feel around it.

Papadopoulos has discussed plans to relocate and expand the Queens footprint further in 2026, along with opening a first location outside New York in Hoboken, New Jersey, growth that suggests the format built here has real momentum behind it. Outlets and steady laptop use are a fixture of the room by day, alongside a wheelchair accessible entrance.
