Rhythm Zero

A 17th century portrait hanging above the red espresso machine at Rhythm Zero

Rhythm Zero opened in October 2022, founded by husband and wife Alex and Ivana Somorai, who both won the U.S. green card lottery and relocated to New York. They found the Kent Street storefront while searching their own Greenpoint neighborhood, and built a space that treats coffee and art as the same pursuit: Ivana handles design and curation, Alex sources the coffee and pastry program.

A 17th century Rembrandt portrait, found in a thrift store, hangs above the espresso bar alongside travertine sconces, vintage furniture, and antique folding screens, with communal tables stocked with the owners' own art books. Erykah Badu and Sade run on the speakers in a room the founders describe as coffee culture meeting art philosophy rather than a straightforward cafe, and the concept has since expanded to Williamsburg, the West Village, and the Upper East Side.
