Nostrand Cafe

An antique brass cash register and a large potted palm on a pale wooden counter inside Nostrand Cafe, under a patterned pressed tin ceiling with a brick wall behind

Nostrand Cafe is a casual, contemporary cafe in Bedford Stuyvesant, a one room space where a communal table takes up most of the floor, with a few extra tables and window seats for meeting a friend. Breakfast is served through the day and Korean dishes join the menu beside the coffee, so it works as a meal as well as a cup.

The coffee is roasted in small batches on an all manual roaster with a double walled cast iron drum, which the cafe says holds a steady temperature through the roast, from selectively sourced green coffee, and it has been roasted in Bed Stuy since 2016. The cafe also sells its beans, and it is open every day, from seven thirty on weekdays and eight at the weekend until five in the afternoon.
