La Cabra East Village

La Cabra's Second Avenue bakery was the Danish company's first New York shop, and it puts its kitchen on show, with a glass wall that lets you watch the team shape pastry and bread while you wait for a coffee. The light, clear coffees are served at a bar faced in bespoke KH Würtz tiles, in a room of warm timber and Hans Wegner chairs.
The bakery works from naturally leavened sourdough and hand laminated croissants, with a rotating cast of creations from the team, built on the idea that excellent coffee deserves fine bread and pastry beside it. La Cabra has run a bakery in Aarhus, Denmark, for nearly a decade, so the pastry case is as much of a draw as the espresso. Doors open at seven on weekdays and eight at the weekend, and close at six.
