Joe Coffee Waverly Place

The corner storefront of Joe Coffee on Waverly Place with a brown awning, a blue hanging sign, an A frame sign and leafy planters along the railing

Joe's Waverly Place shop is where the company began in 2003, when founder Jonathan Rubinstein opened a small corner cafe at Waverly and Gay in the West Village with a plan to serve high quality coffee to the neighborhood with warm hospitality. Two benches out front, which appear in the company's logo, and room for only a few seats inside give it the feel of a small coffee company in spite of the growth that followed.

Joe roasts its own coffee in small batches at its roastery in Long Island City, and calls itself New York's hometown specialty coffee company, so the espresso and drip here are a good baseline for what New York specialty coffee tastes like. It opens every day from seven in the morning to six in the evening.
