Black Fox Coffee Pine Street

A barista at the long espresso machine behind the walnut counter at Black Fox Coffee, with guests chatting and tall windows onto the street

Black Fox sits at street level of the former Cities Service Building on Pine Street, a 1930s Art Deco tower, in a tall room of dark wood, marble tables and warm pendant lights that feels closer to a European espresso bar than a grab and go counter. The company began in 2016, founded by Daniel Murphy and Gary Hardwick, who wanted a better cafe experience and designed their rooms as a nod to the European espresso bar.

The team pours coffees from a range of well regarded roasters from around the world and sells beans to take home. A full kitchen serves breakfast plates, and there is outdoor seating along the building on mild days. Weekday hours run from seven to five, with shorter hours at the weekend.
