Blue Turtle

An espresso in a stoneware cup on its saucer, surrounded by a scatter of roasted coffee beans

Carlo Manna, a graphic designer who wrote his thesis on coffee design, trained at the Coffee Training Academy in Verona under Davide Cobelli before opening Blue Turtle on Passeggiata Colonna in Chiaia in 2023. The turtle shell in the name is meant as a refuge from the city outside, a small room modeled loosely on Japanese kissaten and Western listening bars, lined with books and record sleeves.

Coffee comes from Cobelli's own Garage Coffee Bros, brewed as espresso, filter or cold brew, with guest roasters from further afield rotating in over time. By day it is a quiet spot for a slow coffee among the shelves; by evening the record player takes over and it turns into a jazz and cocktail bar, with live sets most Friday nights.
