Cafe Amka

Wangui Ndegwa researched coffee processing in Ethiopia for her university thesis, then ran an African coffee themed cafe in China before coming home to Nairobi and noticing something odd: most Kenyans never got to drink the country's own best coffee, most of it graded and shipped straight out. She opened Amka in the CBD in 2022 to close that gap, sourcing single origin lots from Kirinyaga County processed through anaerobic natural and carbonic maceration methods, pulled on a Sanremo Café Racer machine.

The room itself is tall, dark, and industrial, concrete columns laser cut with African iconography under warm amber light. Head barista Kennedy runs a three course coffee tasting for anyone who wants the full rundown, and the placemats double as the menu. A serious, design forward space built around Kenyan coffee finally staying home.
