Man Versus Machine Coffee Roasters

Marco and Cornelia Mehrwald founded Man Versus Machine in 2014, after Marco spent a year and a half teaching himself the craft rather than coming up through another cafe first. The operation has stayed independent from day one, no outside investors, roasting its own beans on a Loring roaster in a light to medium style built to taste balanced and sweet across both espresso and filter. It has been named one of the country's best roasters, and international coverage has followed.

The Schellingstraße room sits in the university district of Maxvorstadt, pulling shots on La Marzocco and Slayer machines under a crocodile logo designed by the New York illustrator Jon Contino, a nod to the Mehrwalds' own love of Japanese tea culture that also shows up in the Hario brewing gear behind the counter. Two more locations exist in Glockenbachviertel, the original, and Schwabing, each keeping its own hours. Dogs are welcome, with outdoor seating for anyone who would rather sit with one.
