Humpback Whale Specialty Coffee

Humpback Whale is a small, family run cafe in the Amalienpassage, an early twentieth century arcade in Maxvorstadt, easy to spot by the round, pale blue window and the neon OPEN sign glowing behind it. The family has roots across Vietnam, Australia, the Netherlands and Germany, and after a decade of exploring coffee cultures, this courtyard is where they settled.
The bar is run by Lucy, co founder and Germany's 2025 Cup Tasters Champion, who tastes and chooses every coffee herself. Everything on the shelf is a single origin, named down to the region and producer where possible, from a Vietnamese Lam Dong lot to an Ethiopian Yirgacheffe and a Costa Rican Pura Vida. Espresso and filter are served in handmade ceramic cups, with oat and whole milk, fresh pastries and tables out in the courtyard when the weather allows. Beans are sold by the bag and roasted fresh for online orders.
